A Pathway for Emotionally Healthy Manhood

Wrestling with depression, isolation, anger, addiction or relational strife?

Men need a path to follow

While women are three times more likely to self identify mental health and emotional struggles, men are dramatically more likely to struggle with substance abuse, exhibit harmful antisocial behavior, and die by suicide. The bottom line is men are struggling under mental, emotional, and spiritual challenges but don’t know what to do with them. As men, most of us have been taught to minimize the emotions we experience all the while our internal life is wrecking our external life (including our relationships). But the Lord has not left us to figure out a path forward on our own. He has both given us a path and in fact walked before us in what emotionally healthy manhood looks like.

Men need brotherhood on the journey

What is our typical inclination when it comes to areas we struggle? To fix them on our own. This is the safe solution (at least we think). The problem is emotional and spiritual health only occur and grow in relationship (because we were created for relationship). So how do we overcome our propensity toward isolation and shame? By walking the path of healing with other men who are on the same journey as we are. When we are with other men who wrestle in the same areas as we do, who need the Lord to help and heal in the same ways we do, they become a brotherhood that helps our journey rather than hinders it.

We have created an 8 week equipping/counseling cohort called “The Gospel, Emotional Health, and Manhood.”

The cohort meets weekly via an hour long online session to walk through what the Lord has to say about manhood, our emotions, our relationships, and how we can practically grow in each of those areas. Each cohort is made up of 5-7 men and will include live teaching, practical exercises, times of spiritual reflection, opportunities for additional counseling, and prompts to invite others (spouses, friends or family members) into the process. You can sign up for a cohort by yourself and be placed into a group with other men or if you have a group of men wishing to form a cohort together (from a local church, small group etc.) please reach out to us to schedule a specific group session. The entire cohort costs $200 which is roughly the cost of only two online counseling sessions.

The Weekly Cohort covers topics including:

  • The biblical basis for emotions and how the Lord created men

  • Understanding what occurs within us as we experience various emotions

  • Where shame, guilt, and hiding come from and how it impacts us as men

  • How our emotions lead to our desires and pursuits

  • How dueling desires, and unmet expectations cause relational struggles

  • Tools the Lord gives to us to live an emotionally and spiritually integrated life
